Dr Jane Purdie

After graduating from University of WA, I spent 7 years working in Royal Perth Hospital with the idea of specialising. I made the decision to switch to General Practice and have not regretted this career change.

I joined the team at Third Avenue Surgery in 1996, initially working part-time as well as working for Silver Chain Hospice. I currently work here full-time. I like all aspects of general practice. As a female doctor you have to have an interest in women’s health but I also like medicine as it applies to aged care and paediatrics. Mostly I like the ability to care for patients over an extended time which enables me to know and understand their problems. I feel privileged to have a job which enables me to actually help people.

I have previously spent all my spare time, since I was 16, playing water polo. I have officially hung up my bathers and exchanged them for a set of golf clubs. If I get the opportunity, I would add a camera to my list of interests as well.
