Medicare has introduced new consent requirements for all bulk-billed services.
If your consultation is bulk billed, you will be asked to sign a Medicare Assignment of Benefit (AoB) form or provide verbal consent where applicable.
What is an Assignment of Benefit?
An Assignment of Benefit is your agreement for Medicare to pay the Medicare rebate directly to your doctor or medical practice, rather than paying the rebate to you. This is what allows your consultation to be bulk billed, meaning there is no out-of-pocket cost for eligible services.
This is a Medicare requirement and does not affect privately billed consultations.
